Why seek therapy?

There are many reasons, as well as possibilities for seeking therapy, life can throw up many kinds of challenges. Carrying the weight of unresolved issues, challenging dynamics or moving through significant life transitions can be burdensome. If this is the case, you may be feeling overloaded, stuck, overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected with a limited capacity to engage with life. Therapy can be an opportunity to be deeply seen and felt, to process difficult feelings, develop new understandings, as well as, to find new ways of being in the world, that cultivate a sense of ease and fulfilment, to name just a few.

I bring a lifelong passion and a deep care for understanding how our life experiences shape the way we see ourselves and relate to the world around us. Over many years of academic study, personal development, and therapeutic practice, I’ve come to understand how deeply our painful past experiences can lead to a diminished sense of who we are. I have also come to understand and witness the profound changes that are possible, with the right conditions, alongside willingness and openness to the therapeutic journey.

I see therapy as an opportunity to explore and move through anything that may be holding you back from a life that is meaningful to you. From a compassionate view, it can be seen that we adapt to survive challenging circumstances, and these adaptations or coping strategies that once helped, can come to inhibit us, resulting in feelings of stuckness and disconnection. When deep emotions like fear, grief, anger, shame, or despair are neglected and not processed, we become split off from ourselves and our bodies, and therefore, our inner guidance system. Attempts to keep such emotions at bay can manifest in many different kinds of psychological and physical symptoms. These attempts drain our energy and sense of self, while impacting our relationships, health, and potential to thrive. On top of this, we live in a culture that advocates that we “live our best life”, placing value on success, happiness and productivity, whilst often overriding our core human needs for tenderness, depth, rest, and connection to ourselves, others, and the present moment.

Therapy can be a space to pause, to listen inwardly, and to explore the wisdom of the psyche with care, presence, and understanding, as well as a space to experience being supported in the process of real change; to rediscover agency, meaning and a sense of grounded aliveness.

What will therapy look like?

We will spend time talking, as a way of making sense of any struggles you bring, in the context of your past, and your wishes for your future. Depending on your therapeutic need, I weave together different models of therapy, including traditional psychotherapeutic approaches that explore the influence of early relationship dynamics on one's sense of self, identifying where it is possible to tend to unmet needs. We may integrate evidence-based approaches that cultivate skills-based techniques to support change. This also aligns with a trauma-informed framework to consider understanding how best to support shifts within your nervous system to enable more grounded and flexible ways of being that align with your values. I find great inspiration from depth-psychology and psycho-spiritual approaches including Shamanism and Mysticism that bring back the lost notion of soul, and it's significance to our reconnection to our sense of self, our intuitive inner guidance system and the world around, us to help navigate along our unique path with health and vitality.

At the core of the work is the relationship we will develop. I value offering a nurturing space to help you make sense of and process difficult and uncomfortable experiences, challenging life events and develop insight into aspects of your life that are no longer working for you. I will support you to deepen your connection to yourself and help you consider how to move towards living a life that is meaningful to you. I work in an engaged and collaborative way, encouraging feedback and reflection, and to make use of the relationship we develop for gaining insights and experimenting.
